Autism Treatment with a Compassionate and Community-Focused Model

Success On The Spectrum (SOS) redefines the landscape of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy clinics with its distinctive franchise model. Unlike typical clinics owned by private equity investment groups, each SOS clinic is individually owned—most of them by parents of children with autism. This approach drives a mission centered on delivering exceptional, empathetic care, making the model deeply personal and compassionate.

“Our unique clinic owners bring a personal touch that large investment groups simply cannot replicate. The superior franchise model, coupled with the many free services that we offer, shows our focus on the well-being of the child, not profits,” says Nichole Daher, CEO.

Even from a therapeutic standpoint, the clinics are markedly different. Traditional ABA therapy clinics often limit their services to children under six. In contrast, SOS’s clinics provide comprehensive support for children up to 18 years old. Their holistic approach also integrates ABA therapy with speech, occupational therapy and social skills classes, addressing a wider array of needs for a child’s overall development rather than just meeting minimal therapy requirements.

Through community outreach programs, SOS also offers free social opportunities, parent training and events for any child with autism, fostering inclusion and raising autism awareness. These initiatives help in creating a supportive environment for all affected by autism, not just those served by the clinic directly.

Addressing Staff Shortage

Recent CDC reports suggest that approximately 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with autism, reflecting a significant rise over the past few years. However, currently, there are only about 60,000 licensed behavior analysts in the country, which is insufficient given the number of children needing support.

As more clinics open, the demand for licensed providers intensifies, creating a critical need for innovative solutions to attract and train new professionals. SOS addresses this issue by forming partnerships with universities that offer behavior analyst courses. These partnerships include nine universities, providing a discounted tuition and practicum sites for future behavior analysts.

In addition to free supervision hours and practicum hours, SOS offers paid internships to individuals pursuing a behavior analyst degree. In addition, for its employees who wish to advance their careers from technicians to behavior analysts, the company also provides tuition reimbursement perks. This initiative not only alleviates the shortage of behavior analysts but promotes career growth and professional development within its organization.

Redefining Autism Care with Holistic Programs

From self-care and communication to social skills development, the programs at each SOS franchise are designed to enhance the lives of children with autism, helping them overcome challenges and achieve greater independence and happiness.

One of the primary challenges for children with autism is language and communication. SOS is committed to helping clients improve their verbal communication skills. For children who are unable to communicate verbally, SOS teaches alternative communication methods, such as typing, pointing at pictures or using sign language. These skills help children become independent and effectively communicate in various settings.

Our unique clinic owners bring a personal touch that large investment groups simply cannot replicate. The superior franchise model, coupled with the many free services that we offer, shows our focus on the well-being of the child, not profits

A notable success story illustrates the profound impact of these programs. One child, who was 12 years old and had never spoken a word, was initially treated as if he did not understand language at all. Traditional methods failed to gauge his understanding, but everything changed when he was given a keyboard and taught to type. He began writing full sentences and paragraphs, revealing he comprehended everything being said. This child, despite behaving like a toddler in other ways, could write detailed book reports and stories. The keyboard unlocked his ability to communicate, demonstrating the depth of his understanding and knowledge that had been trapped inside.

Social interaction is another area where children with autism often struggle. SOS has a robust program to help children develop social skills, make friends and maintain relationships. This program focuses on teaching children how to play with others, choose friends and enjoy a more social life.

While catering to the kids, parents often worry about their child’s future, especially regarding independence and social integration. SOS addresses these concerns through comprehensive programs, assuring that children are equipped with the skills needed to lead fulfilling lives. Take its self-care program, for instance. It includes toilet training, teaching children how to brush their teeth, dress themselves and even basic cooking skills. These programs are tailored to the child’s age and skill level, with the ultimate goal of making them as self-reliant as possible.

These comprehensive services and each SOS franchisee’s independent operational status have earned it numerous accolades and recognition from many national publications. The clinic recently made it to the top 10 list of key players in the autism treatment industry in a Fortune Business Insights market study.

By maintaining a focus on quality over quantity, SOS continues to make a significant difference in the lives of children with autism, providing them with the tools they need to thrive independently and happily.
